A Magistrate Court in the Nomansland area of Kano State has ordered the remand of a popular TikTok content creator, Umar Hisham Fagge, also known as Tsulange, for allegedly engaging in public indecency and violating the state’s moral and religious standards.
Presiding Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan ruled on Friday that Tsulange be held at a correctional facility until July 3, 2025, to allow for further investigation into the charges brought against him.
The Kano State Censorship Board arraigned Tsulange after his arrest for filming a viral comedy skit in which he appeared to bathe in public while dressed in women’s undergarments—a scene officials say was shot on a public road.
In a statement released by the Board’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the picture was described as “offensive to public decency” and in violation of Kano’s cultural and Islamic values. The board also warned that such acts reflect a concerning rise in morally questionable behavior among some social media users in the state.
The case has stirred debate online, with some calling for respect for local norms, while others argue for freedom of expression in digital content creation.
