The Kano State Government has firmly denied corruption allegations made by former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baffa Bichi, clarifying that his removal was not solely due to health reasons, as initially stated.
In a viral video, Bichi accused Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration of large-scale corruption, claiming it was far worse than the previous government led by Abdullahi Ganduje.
“What we accused Ganduje’s administration of, this one has multiplied it by ten. We have evidence, and I assure you, we’ll remove them in 2027,” Bichi said in the video.
Responding on Friday, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, dismissed Bichi’s claims as baseless, politically motivated, and intended to mislead the public.
“We find his claims not only unfortunate but deeply misleading. This administration remains committed to transparency, accountability, and delivering services. Comparing it to the past government is unfair and untrue,” Waiya stated.
He challenged Bichi to present concrete evidence to back his accusations. “If he has proof, let him make it public. Baseless claims won’t stop our progress,” he added.
Waiya also addressed the real reason behind Bichi’s dismissal, revealing that citing health concerns was a deliberate act of respect. “We didn’t disclose the full reason out of courtesy. But let it be clear, health was not the only factor behind his removal,” he said.
Commenting on Bichi’s recent conduct, Waiya expressed concern and advised him to seek medical help. “Given his recent outburst, I strongly suggest he prioritizes his health.”
The government reaffirmed its dedication to good governance and urged the public to ignore what it described as “baseless and distracting” claims meant to derail its mission.
Baffa Bichi was removed from office on March 29, 2024, during a significant political reshuffle that affected several commissioners and top aides in the Yusuf administration.
