Kano govt orders probe as senior students allegedly k!ll junior students in a boarding school

The Kano State Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic deaths of two students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, following an alleged fatal attack by fellow students on school grounds.

Reports indicate that the victims, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, were allegedly assaulted by senior students using improvised metal weapons locally known as ‘Gwale-Gwale’.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 16, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Kano State Ministry of Education, Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, emphasized the government’s commitment to uncovering the truth. “No one will be spared once the investigation is concluded,” the statement read, stressing that the government would leave no stone unturned in the quest for justice.

The State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Baffa Muhammad, has directed an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation into the incident.

During a visit to the school, the Permanent Secretary addressed the student body, urging them to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. “Instead of resorting to violence, students should report any concerns to the appropriate school authorities for proper action,” he said. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, praying, “May Almighty Allah grant the souls of the departed Jannatul Firdaus.”

Grieving family members have also called for justice. Malam Ibrahim Yusuf Dungurawa, a relative of the late Umar Yusuf, described the family’s anguish and appealed to the government to ensure that justice is served. Similarly, Malam Idris Garba Tofawa, father of Hamza Idris, described the tragedy as a divine test but urged authorities to act decisively and bring those responsible to justice.
