Mr. Festus keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development on Thursday commissioned the newly constructed access road leading to the Sadiq Abubakar III International Airport, Sokoto.
A statement by Mr. Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the minister, also said that Keyamo used the opportunity of the visit to lay the foundation stone for the construction of a new protocol lounge at the airport as part of the ongoing efforts to modernise aviation infrastructure across the country.
The statement hinted that the minister was received by Dr. Ahmed Sokoto, the Governor of Sokoto State, as the visit coincided with the governor’s second year anniversary in office.
According to Moshood, the event underscored the spirit of collaboration between the Federal and State governments in delivering quality infrastructure that enhances air travel, safety, and passenger experience.
The statement quoted Keyamo as saying that the airport is a gateway not just to Sokoto, but to the entire North-Western region.
“These infrastructure upgrades are crucial for enhancing passenger experience and facilitating regional development,” he said.
On the entourage of the minister were Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and some top directors in the agency.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, state officials and aviation stakeholders, among others.
Keyamo’s visit reflects the Federal Government’s continued investment in aviation infrastructure as a critical driver of economic growth, regional integration, and national pride, the statement said.
