Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the royal family and the people of Epe Kingdom following the passing of the 19th Olu of Epe, Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale.
The revered monarch, aged 86, died in the early hours of Saturday, May 31, 2025. His passing was confirmed by High Chief Odedeogboro Balogun of Epe Kingdom, Musiliu Adeniyi.
In a condolence statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the monarch’s death as a profound loss to the Epe community and the wider traditional institution in Lagos State.
He praised Oba Adewale’s enduring contributions to the growth of both Epe and the state, emphasizing that his legacy would remain a guiding light for future generations.
“On behalf of the government and people of Lagos State, I commiserate with the Epe community, the traditional council, and the royal family, as well as friends and political associates of the late Oba Shefiu Olatunji Adewale, who joined his ancestors on Saturday,” the Governor stated.
“Oba Adewale made significant contributions throughout his life, first as a dedicated civil servant in the Lagos State Government, where he rose to the position of Director of Administration in the Ministry of Education and also served as Executive Secretary in the Ministry of Lands. His passion for service continued into his reign as a traditional ruler, during which he played a key role in the development of Epe Kingdom and in strengthening the traditional institution in Lagos.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the people of Epe to honour the late monarch’s memory by upholding and building on his achievements.
“I pray that Almighty God grants the soul of our departed monarch eternal rest and gives his family and the entire Epe Kingdom the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss,” he concluded.
