The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced that any case of ballot box snatching during Saturday’s local government elections will lead to a by-election in the affected area.

LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), made this known during a press briefing on Thursday at the Tripple C Event Centre in Sabo, Yaba. She assured Lagos residents of the commission’s full preparedness to conduct free, fair, and credible elections across all 57 local government areas and local council development areas.

“There will be by-elections if a ballot box is snatched anywhere,” she stated, adding that while the commission does not anticipate such incidents, it is ready to respond if they occur.

Okikiolu-Ighile also confirmed that there is no threat of postponement and that the election will proceed as scheduled on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

In preparation for the polls, the Lagos State Police Command has deployed officers to strategic locations and announced movement restrictions to maintain order on election day. Initially set to begin at 3:00 a.m., the restriction has now been revised to start at 6:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m., following public concerns.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin explained that the adjustment is to accommodate residents with medical emergencies or international travel plans.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to providing a safe and peaceful environment for the electoral process.
