The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, a 60-year-old motorcycle operator, who was swept away by floodwaters during heavy rainfall along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Alakuko.
In a statement released on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the incident occurred around 4:00 p.m. on May 20 during a severe downpour.
According to the police, Adeniran lost control of his motorcycle in the heavy rain and was carried away by the fast-moving flood. His motorcycle was found downstream around 6:00 p.m. the same day, but his body remained missing until the next morning. The body was discovered at about 9:00 a.m. on May 21, 2025, at the Obasanjo River in Ota, Ogun State, Hundeyin confirmed.
Police detectives visited both the scene of the accident and the recovery site. The body was photographed and has been deposited at a public morgue for an autopsy. An investigation is currently underway.
The Lagos State Police Command expressed its condolences to the family and assured the public of a thorough investigation into the incident.
