The Lagos State Government has denied claims by former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, that it was responsible for the demolition of a property allegedly belonging to his brother in Lagos.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, stated that neither the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) nor any other state agency was involved in the said demolition.
“The Lagos State Government is compelled to address the recent allegations made by Mr. Peter Obi regarding the demolition of a property belonging to his brother. We categorically state that LASBCA or any other agency under the state government did not carry out the demolition,” the statement read.
Omotoso added that Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, Special Adviser on eGIS and Urban Development—who oversees LASBCA—also confirmed that the agency had no involvement in the incident.
He criticized Obi for making the claim without verifying the facts, calling it “disturbing and misleading.”
Reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, the Lagos State Government stressed its zero-tolerance policy for unlawful actions and promised to take appropriate legal action against any individuals found guilty of wrongdoing.
“The government will not tolerate lawlessness or violations of existing laws. Any parties involved in such actions will face justice,” the statement continued.
Omotoso urged the public to disregard Obi’s allegation and assured Lagos residents of the government’s commitment to safety and order.
To clarify the situation, the government has directed the Permanent Secretary of the Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, to initiate a formal investigation through LASBCA.
“The investigation will establish the facts and determine the circumstances surrounding the demolition,” the statement said.
Omotoso concluded by reaffirming Lagos State’s commitment to welcoming all Nigerians and ensuring the welfare and security of its residents.
