Mbappe Misses Club World Cup Opener, Now Hospitalized Ahead Of Key Fixtures

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe has been hospitalized during the ongoing Club World Cup, casting serious doubt over his availability for the rest of the tournament.

The French forward missed Real Madrid’s opening match on Wednesday due to illness, and on Thursday, the club confirmed he had been admitted to hospital with acute gastroenteritis, a condition marked by severe diarrhoea and vomiting.

“Our player Kylian Mbappe is suffering from an acute case of gastroenteritis and has been admitted to hospital in order to undergo a series of tests and follow the appropriate course of treatment,” the club said in an official statement.

Following the team’s 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal, head coach Xabi Alonso commented cautiously on Mbappe’s condition, saying:
“We’ll have to see how he feels. The last day he went through significant viral issues, so we’ll have to wait and assess closer to the game.”

Real Madrid are set to face Mexico’s Pachuca in their second group match on Sunday, with Alonso aiming for a stronger showing. The Spanish giants will wrap up their group stage campaign against Red Bull Salzburg on June 26.

Mbappe’s illness presents a major blow to Madrid’s tournament hopes, with his condition now under close medical supervision.
