A mother and her son narrowly escaped death after their vehicle overturned several times at the NYSC Bus Stop along the LASU–Isheri Expressway in Lagos.
The lone accident occurred on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, when a Lexus SUV travelling from Isheri towards Igando reportedly lost control and flipped three times before coming to a stop amid heavy traffic along the busy corridor near the Lagos State University axis.
Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) swiftly responded to the scene and carried out a coordinated rescue operation. The mother and her son were successfully extricated from the badly damaged vehicle with visible bruises and mild trauma, avoiding what could have been a fatal incident.
Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force from the Igando Division provided security at the scene, managing the crowd and ensuring a smooth rescue and evacuation process. Family members later arrived and took the victims to a medical facility for further assessment and treatment.
LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that emergency responders also worked to promptly remove the wrecked vehicle to prevent secondary crashes and ease traffic congestion. The vehicle was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed relief that no lives were lost. He wished the victims a speedy recovery and reiterated the agency’s commitment to rapid emergency response and road safety enforcement. He also urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and conduct routine vehicle safety checks, particularly on critical components such as braking systems, warning that excessive speed combined with mechanical faults can lead to devastating accidents on major expressways.
