MOUAU Final-Year Student Collapses And Dies

The management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, has announced the tragic passing of Nwachukwu Omiko, a final-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, May 15, by the institution’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Ubadire Agua, Omiko collapsed while playing football on the university campus.

“Available information indicates that Omiko slumped on the pitch. His fellow players made immediate efforts to revive him before notifying the University Health Services,” the statement read. “He was quickly transported to the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, in the university’s oxygen-equipped ambulance at top speed.”

Despite all efforts to save his life, Omiko was pronounced dead at the medical facility.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, expressed the university’s heartfelt condolences to Omiko’s family, friends, and colleagues in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology.

In the wake of the incident, the university management urged students to prioritize their health by utilizing campus health services and avoiding strenuous physical activities, especially if they have any underlying medical conditions.
