Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has penned a heartfelt tribute to his first wife, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, as she marked her birthday on Saturday, June 21. In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, El-Rufai praised Hadiza as his lifelong partner, best friend, and the woman who gave his life meaning.
Reflecting on their nearly 40 years of marriage, El-Rufai described Hadiza as “a bundle of brains, beauty and brawn,” highlighting her remarkable academic achievements — including three master’s degrees in architecture, business administration, and creative writing — and her fluency in French. He also noted her success as a published novelist.
“Please join me and members of the El-Rufai family to wish my best friend, university classmate, teenage sweetheart, and dearest wife, Hadiza Isma El-Rufai, a very happy birthday,” he wrote. “We pray for Almighty God to continue to bless her with good health, long life, and happiness.”
El-Rufai praised Hadiza’s strength and discipline as the foundation of their home, acknowledging her pivotal role in raising their children, including Hon. Bello El-Rufai, and embracing her as a devoted grandmother.
He concluded the tribute by calling on friends, family, and well-wishers to join in celebrating Hadiza’s impact, not just within their family but in the wider society.
The touching message has since drawn widespread admiration online, with many commending the former governor for publicly honoring his wife with such affection and respect.
