The internal turmoil within Nigeria’s Labour Party (LP) intensified on Wednesday, May 7, as Senator Nenadi Usman, Chair of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, initiated disciplinary action against former National Chairman Julius Abure, calling him an “impostor.”
At a press conference in Abuja, Usman announced that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), under her leadership, has given Abure 24 hours to respond or face disciplinary measures.
This move comes amid ongoing leadership disputes, corruption allegations, and legal battles that have plagued the party since the 2023 general elections.
Usman accused Abure of trying to undermine the party’s leadership instead of addressing multiple allegations of corruption and forgery.
The former chairman should focus on answering the charges against him, rather than attacking the party and its leaders,” she stated.
The development underscores the widening rift within the Labour Party and raises fresh concerns about its unity ahead of future elections.
