A newly recruited soldier, identified as Dauda Dedan, has allegedly stabbed a police constable, Aaron John, to death in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State.
The incident, which occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday in Mayo-Goyi, a suburb of Jalingo, was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Taraba State Command, James Lashen.
According to Lashen, Constable John responded to a distress call from residents who reported a dispute involving the soldier. Upon arriving at the scene, John was reportedly caught in the middle of the altercation, during which he was fatally stabbed by Dedan.
The PPRO added that the suspect is currently on the run. He stated that the Nigerian Army has launched an investigation and assured the police of their full cooperation in apprehending the fugitive.
“We have reported the case to the 6 Brigade headquarters of the Nigerian Army, and they have assured us of their commitment to locating and arresting the suspect,” Lashen said. “Both the army and police are working closely together. We’ve already traced the suspect’s residence and will ensure he is brought to justice.”
