Nicki Minaj Accuses Jay-Z of Owing Her $200M in “Karmic Debt” Over Tidal Deal

Nicki Minaj has publicly reignited tensions with Jay-Z, accusing the music mogul of owing her a massive payout from the sale of Tidal, his former streaming platform.

In a bold tweet posted on Tuesday, July 8, Minaj claimed she was short-changed after holding a 3% equity stake in the platform. She alleges she received just $1 million—far less than the $9 million she expected—after Tidal was sold to Jack Dorsey’s company, Block, in 2021. Nicki went further, suggesting her total owed compensation could be in the range of “$100–200 million,” referring to it as a “karmic debt.”

“Call me to settle this karmic debt,” she urged Jay-Z in her tweet.

Minaj didn’t stop there. She also took aim at Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, hinting at alleged misconduct surrounding the deal. Her post touched on broader frustrations within the industry, including critiques of the Super Bowl halftime show lineup, further fueling debate about how Black artists are represented and compensated.

The tweet sparked a firestorm of reactions from fans and industry watchers alike. Speculation began swirling about Minaj possibly moving to other platforms like Kick or Twitch, though she has not confirmed any such plans.

As of now, Jay-Z has not issued a public response, but Minaj’s allegations have revived long-standing concerns about artist equity in music tech ventures.
