Nigerian man who was jailed in the US over $1m fraud is charged with stabbing a man to death in the UK

A Nigerian man who served two years in jail in the United States for defrauding East Texans and others of nearly $1m. has been charged with alleged murder in the UK.

According to met.police.uk, Abdul Kareem Fawaz, 35, has been charged with murder and possession of a knife and is due to appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court today (July 7) having been remanded in custody.

An investigation was launched after police were called to a residential address at Bondway, SW8 following reports of an altercation on Saturday, 5 July at 05:38hrs.

A man, aged 32, was found with knife injuries. He was treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene.

While formal identification awaits, he can be named as Daniel Manuel. Daniel’s next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

Fawaz has been charged as above. The 33-year-old has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

In 2017, Fawaz bagged two years in jail in the United States for defrauding East Texans and others of nearly $1m.

He was one of the two persons named in a federal indictment for charges of aggravated identity theft and conspiracy to commit bank fraud, as well as aiding and abetting.

He was travelling to the U.S. from Ghana when he was arrested at the airport in New York.
