The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, says Nigeria has not recorded a single case of piracy in its waters over the last five years, crediting ongoing naval operations for the achievement.
Speaking through Rear Admiral Gabriel Aligwe, Chief of Administration at the Nigerian Navy School, Ogalla made the remark during the passing out parade of the 2025 set of young sailors held on Saturday at the Navy School in Ikot Ntuen, Akwa Ibom State.
For five years now, Nigeria has had zero cases of piracy. This is due to continuous patrols, surveillance systems, and major naval operations like Operation Delta Sanity, Aligwe said.
He commended the Navy’s consistent efforts in keeping the country’s waterways secure and urged the graduating sailors to remain committed to their career paths.
Stay resilient and pursue your dreams. Some of you will go to the Nigerian Defence Academy; others will serve directly in the Navy. Your training has laid the foundation for a promising career, he told the graduates.
Also speaking at the event, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, represented by Education Commissioner Prof. Ubong Umoh, congratulated the young sailors and advised them to stay focused and avoid negative influences.
You’ve been well trained and have the potential to succeed. Avoid vices, stay disciplined, and stay committed to your future, the governor said.
