The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has apprehended nine individuals in Jigawa State over alleged involvement in cattle rustling and the vandalism of public infrastructure.
The suspects were presented at the NSCDC Command headquarters in Dutse, where the State Commandant, Bawa Boddinga, outlined the circumstances surrounding their arrest. He stated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb increasing criminal activities across the state.
Among those arrested are Adamu Hassan, 40, from Kantamari village in Kaugama Local Government Area, and Hassan Adamu, 31, from Malam-Madori Local Government Area. Both were allegedly involved in cattle rustling. The other seven suspects, aged between 14 and 35, were detained in connection with the vandalism of key infrastructure in Danmanomi village, located in Gumel Local Government Area.
Items recovered during the operation included stolen livestock—six goats, four sheep, and a calf—along with a motorcycle, a bus, farming tools, and traditional weapons such as bows and arrows.
Commandant Boddinga reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to restoring law and order throughout Jigawa. “We are determined to make Jigawa a zero-crime state. All divisional officers and area commanders have been instructed to increase surveillance and intensify operations across the state,” he said.
He further disclosed that investigations are ongoing to determine the level of involvement of each suspect, with legal action to follow. “We are also investigating possible connections between these suspects and broader criminal networks operating within the state,” Boddinga added.
