The immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State Caretaker Committee, Ben Nwoye, has described the party’s State Congress as the culmination of a painstaking reconciliation process that restored unity within the party.
Nwoye made the remarks on Tuesday at the APC congress in Enugu State, shortly before formally handing over leadership to the newly elected state chairman, Martins Chukwunweike.
“Today is not just another political gathering; we are completing a journey,” Nwoye said, reflecting on the task given to the caretaker committee.
He explained that reconciling aggrieved members and rebuilding trust across the party structure was challenging, but necessary for the APC’s survival and growth in the state.
“The assignment demanded sacrifice, patience and inclusive leadership,” he noted, adding that despite internal disagreements, the committee remained focused on its mandate.
According to him, the reconciliation effort has yielded results, with all factions now operating under a single, united platform. “Today, I can confidently say we are handing over a united APC,” Nwoye declared.
He stressed that inclusiveness was central to the process, saying new entrants into the party were fully integrated. “We chose inclusion over exclusion and unity over personal ambition,” he stated.
Nwoye commended Enugu State Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his leadership and support throughout the reconciliation process, describing him as a stabilising influence for the party in the state.
He also acknowledged Prince Lawrence Ezeh for providing vehicles that supported the committee’s operations, and praised the 17 local government chairmen for their roles in the successful e-registration exercise.
Further appreciation went to Barrister Victor Udeh and Professor Chidiebere Onyia for their cooperation, which Nwoye said strengthened the committee’s resolve and eased its assignment.
Congratulating the newly elected executives, Nwoye urged party members to sustain the spirit of unity, expressing confidence in future electoral success. He reaffirmed loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the party’s national leadership, insisting that unity remains the foundation for victory.
