Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Governors Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) were among dignitaries who paid their last respects to the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, at his burial on Saturday in Isanya Ogbo, Odogbolu LGA, Ogun State.

Aged 96, Adebanjo—an elder statesman, lawyer, and one of the last close allies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo—died in Lagos on February 14, 2025.

During the funeral service at St. Philip Anglican Church, Governor Abiodun described Adebanjo as a fearless advocate of true federalism, democracy, and justice. “He was a titan of integrity and a moral compass for the nation,” Abiodun said, adding that Adebanjo’s legacy is a blueprint for a united and equitable Nigeria.

Bishop Michael Fape, who led the service, urged Nigerians to live purposefully and selflessly, drawing parallels between Adebanjo’s life and that of Christ in fulfilling divine purpose. He emphasized that Adebanjo’s lifelong commitment to democracy, equity, and good governance should serve as a model for present and future leaders.

Other notable attendees included former Ogun State Governors Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, CBN Governor Yemi Cardoso, former Deputy Governor Gbenga Kaka, and elder statesman Chief Ayo Opadokun.
