Obodo: Osimhen Needs To Compromise To Avoid Career Misstep

Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo has urged Victor Osimhen to carefully consider his next move amid growing transfer speculation surrounding the Napoli striker.

In an interview with Brila.net on Tuesday, Obodo said that Osimhen’s hefty release clause and high wage demands have deterred many top European clubs from pursuing him.

“I know Osimhen still wants to play in Europe and achieve great things, but the release clause set by Napoli, along with his salary expectations, is scaring clubs away,” Obodo explained. “No club wants to make a decision they might later regret.”

Obodo also expressed frustration with how Nigerian players are marketed and perceived compared to their South American counterparts.

“If Osimhen were Brazilian, he would have been signed by now,” he said. “Nigeria doesn’t package its players well. Even the way some Nigerians speak about their own players isn’t fair.”

The former Udinese star advised Osimhen to strike a balance between ambition and opportunity.

“He needs to decide whether to compromise in order to stay in Europe or go to Al Hilal for the money,” Obodo said. “Whatever decision he makes, we can only hope it turns out to be the right one.”

Osimhen, 26, recently completed a loan spell at Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he scored an impressive 37 goals in 41 appearances. The club is reportedly interested in signing him permanently.

Despite previously rejecting an offer from Saudi side Al Hilal, Osimhen continues to draw interest from several major European clubs, including Juventus, Arsenal, Chelsea, and, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Manchester United.
