Operations Resume At Lagos Airport Following Fire Incident

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the reopening of the airspace at Terminal One of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport after a fire incident temporarily disrupted operations.

Addressing journalists on Monday, FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, confirmed that no fatalities were recorded, although six individuals sustained injuries during the incident.

She revealed that three international flights — operated by Emirates, British Airways, and Lufthansa — were diverted as a precautionary measure.

Kuku explained that although some airport activities were briefly affected, full operations were expected to resume soon.

“Our immediate focus was to contain the fire and safeguard lives. Emergency protocols were swiftly implemented, and all occupants were safely evacuated without any loss of life due to the coordinated efforts of the relevant agencies,” she said.

She further noted that the airport’s Emergency Operations Centre was promptly activated, led by the airport manager in his capacity as Chief Safety and Security Officer, in accordance with established emergency response procedures.
