2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has called on Nigerians to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general election, calling the PVC “the most powerful tool” to fight bad governance and election rigging.
In a statement titled “PVC is the Bridge to a New Nigeria,” Obi warned citizens against selling their votes, describing vote-buying as “an investment in corruption” by dishonest politicians.
“Today, I urge every Nigerian, young and old, to take this call seriously. The future of our nation depends on you. The greatest strength of democracy lies in your voter card,” he said.
Obi described the PVC as “the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor against injustice and bad leadership.” He encouraged Nigerians to organize, register, and hold tightly to their PVCs to make election rigging harder.
He also cautioned about the dangers of selling votes:
“Those who buy votes are not giving charity; they are investing in their own corruption. They buy votes to get into office and steal public money meant for schools, hospitals, and jobs. These people are not leaders—they are criminals in disguise.”
Obi stressed that selling votes is like selling the nation’s future:
“When you sell your vote, you’re selling the chance for a better life—for your children’s education, healthcare, and decent jobs.”
He emphasized that the power to save Nigeria is in the hands of its people:
“Our democracy is at risk. That’s why I urge every eligible Nigerian to register, collect, and protect your PVC. When voting day comes, use it wisely. Choose leaders with competence, character, and compassion. Don’t be scared, fooled, or bought.”
Obi ended by reminding Nigerians that real power belongs to the people—not corrupt politicians who trade the nation’s future for their own gain.
