Police arrest nine suspects over killing of Ajiran monarch’s son in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the killing of Prince Ademola Akinloye, son of the Ajiran of Agungi, Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye.

Prince Akinloye was shot and later butchered by gunmen along Chevron Drive, near Ebano Supermarket, Ajiran community, on August 26, 2024.

According to police sources, seven of the suspects were arrested on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, by operatives of the command’s tactical squad, while two others had been apprehended about a week earlier in connection with the crime.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the arrests followed intelligence gathering and investigations that linked the suspects to the killing of the monarch’s son. The source added that some of the suspects are also allegedly connected to the killing of one Sheriff Salami, who was murdered on April 18, 2023, in the Moba community of Ajah.

Meanwhile, the Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran has issued a public notice confirming its active involvement in the ongoing investigations into the killings of Prince Akinloye and Salami.

In the statement signed by Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye and Alhaji Yekini Olawale Bakare, the family noted that both murders were carried out in broad daylight within the Ojomu community. The royal family said the investigation was necessary to ensure justice for the victims and to guarantee the safety of residents within the kingdom.

The family also raised concerns over alleged unauthorised sales of its land and urged members of the public to exercise caution.

Reacting to the development, a businessman and community member, Bashir Fakorede, commended the police for reopening the case and making arrests. In a statement signed by his media aide, Ola Mohammed, Fakorede urged security agencies to ensure a swift and transparent investigation, stressing that justice must be served for the victims, their families, and the wider community.

He cautioned against attempts to derail the investigation through protests or destruction of property, noting that the prime suspect remains at large. Fakorede also appealed to journalists to verify facts before publication, emphasising the importance of responsible reporting in the ongoing case.
