President Tinubu Appoints Ismael Ahmed as Executive Chairman of Presidential CNG Initiative

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), a key component of his administration’s palliative strategy aimed at cushioning the impact of fuel subsidy removal.

The appointment was confirmed in a statement on Friday by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga, who explained that Ahmed will be responsible for coordinating the operations of the PCNGi, which seeks to provide cheaper, cleaner, and more accessible energy alternatives for Nigerians.

According to the Presidency, the initiative plays a vital role in the administration’s broader energy transition and economic relief programmes.

Ahmed, 45, is a graduate of the University of Abuja with a Bachelor of Laws degree (2005), and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006. He later obtained a master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008.

He previously served as Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme between 2018 and 2022.
