Rivers Police Announce Movement Restriction for Ahoada East, Khana Bye-Elections

The Rivers State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement ahead of the bye-elections for Ahoada East State Constituency II and Khana State Constituency II scheduled for Saturday, February 21.

The restriction will be enforced from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on election day and will apply within and around Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas. According to the police, the measure is intended to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process.

The Command said there will be massive deployment of security personnel across the two LGAs to prevent any breakdown of law and order and to protect lives and property before, during, and after the elections. Security operatives will be stationed at strategic locations, polling units, and major roads to curb violence, electoral malpractice, and other criminal activities.

Residents have been advised to strictly comply with the movement restriction, avoid unnecessary gatherings around polling units, refrain from carrying weapons or suspicious items, and promptly report any suspicious activities. The public was also urged to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with electoral laws.

The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, warned that anyone who violates the restriction order or engages in acts capable of disturbing public peace will be arrested and prosecuted. He further called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to shun violence and comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

Parents and guardians were advised to caution their children and wards against being used to cause unrest during the election. The Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to providing a safe environment for voters to exercise their civic rights without fear or intimidation.
