Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, made a surprise joint appearance on Saturday—just two days after another round of peace talks at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The trio, central to the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, were spotted together at a funeral service held in Rumueprikom, Wike’s hometown in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Their public appearance follows renewed efforts by President Bola Tinubu to broker peace between Fubara and his estranged political allies, including Wike and Amaewhule, after nearly two years of intense political wrangling.
The funeral was attended by several political heavyweights from the region, including Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Senator George Thompson Sekibo, Senator Olaka Nwogu, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Chibudom Nwuche, ex-lawmaker Hon. Ken Chikere, South-South APC Vice Chairman Victor Giadom, and former PDP Deputy National Chairman Dr. Sam Sam Jaja.
Sources reveal that Governor Fubara is expected to meet with his loyalists today in a closed-door session. The meeting will reportedly focus on the outcomes of the recent discussions with President Tinubu and Wike, and the path forward in resolving the crisis that has deeply divided the state’s political landscape.
