A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Oke, has filed a formal petition to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, demanding immediate action over the alleged abduction and extortion of N151.5 million from a diasporan Nigerian, Segun Okubajo, by four police officers. Acting on behalf of Segun’s father, Okubajo Kehinde, the SAN detailed how Segun was arrested in Lagos without any criminal charges, held incommunicado, and forcibly taken to Abuja.
According to the petition, Segun’s arrest followed a plot orchestrated by known informants in collusion with the officers, who initially demanded N1 billion but later accepted a “negotiated” sum of N151.5 million under duress. The funds were reportedly raised through loans and support from friends and cooperatives.
The petition also alleges ongoing threats to Segun and his family and criticizes police inaction despite previous reports filed in 2024. Prof. Oke is demanding a thorough investigation, a full refund, and disciplinary action against the involved officers within 14 days — or face legal escalation.
