Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud, often referred to as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36, nearly two decades after a tragic car accident left him in a coma.
In 2005, at just 15 years old, Prince Al-Waleed sustained a brain hemorrhage and internal injuries in a car crash while studying at a military college in London. He never regained full consciousness and remained on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh until his death.
His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, confirmed the sad news on Saturday via a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled… May Allah have mercy on him.”
Over the years, Prince Khaled publicly refused to end life support, holding on to hope for his son’s recovery. His devotion made the young prince a symbol of perseverance and faith across the Arab world.
News of Prince Al-Waleed’s passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences online, with the hashtag #SleepingPrince trending widely. Many users paid tribute, calling him “a blessing” and praying for his soul to rest in peace.
Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
