The Senate has established an 18-member committee to oversee the activities of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.).
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the formation of the committee during Tuesday’s plenary session. He explained that the move aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has been appointed as the committee chairman. Akpabio emphasized the importance of the committee’s oversight role, describing it as essential to maintaining effective legislative checks and balances in Rivers State.
He also noted that the committee’s composition could be revised after further consultations.
Akpabio urged the committee to begin its duties immediately, underlining the urgency of their assignment and the Senate’s commitment to democratic governance.
Committee members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), along with the Clerk of the Senate.
