According to a statement released by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident occurred around 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. It involved a tricycle with registration number DUU407WZ and a DYNA truck with no visible license plates. The truck driver reportedly fled the scene before FRSC personnel arrived.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Akwa Ibom, Assistant Corps Marshal Edward Odiete, confirmed the incident and described the crash as both tragic and preventable. He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and urged motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations.
