Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), on Monday, July 21, joined retired police officers and other activists in a protest in Abuja, demanding improved welfare and their removal from the contributory pension scheme.

The protest, organized by the Nigerian Union of Retired Police Officers, began at the National Assembly Complex and was set to proceed to the Force Headquarters.

The retirees criticized the contributory pension system, describing it as “discriminatory” and “exploitative.” They also claimed that many of their colleagues had passed away without receiving their full retirement benefits.
