Sterling Bank Plc has reinforced its commitment to developing Nigeria’s future workforce with the expansion of its flagship “Beyond Education” initiative. Building on the recently announced ₦2 billion scholarship fund for 600 young Nigerians, the bank is now offering select beneficiaries paid internships and guaranteed job placements.

In a statement released on Saturday, Sterling Bank described the move as a strategic evolution of its original scholarship program into a comprehensive talent development pipeline. The initiative is designed to provide hands-on experience in critical sectors such as banking, technology, customer service, and risk management.

Speaking on the development, Sterling Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Abubakar Suleiman, emphasized the bank’s vision: Nigeria’s greatest asset is its people. Our responsibility is to equip them to lead, innovate, and transform. With this initiative, we’re creating a launchpad for the next generation of builders and problem solvers. This is the work that moves a nation forward, and it’s the path we’ve deliberately chosen.

Suleiman also highlighted the bank’s broader mission of creating real-world impact. In April, Sterling became the first Nigerian bank to eliminate transfer fees for individual customers, generating over ₦600 million in savings within three months. Its “AlwaysOn” product offers eligible customers instant access to ₦1 million in cash advances—delivering critical financial support when needed.

Sterling Bank is not just about banking; we are committed to advancing national progress,” Suleiman said. “We now call on forward-thinking organizations across various sectors to partner with us by offering internships, employment, or mentorship opportunities to scholarship recipients. Together, we can shape a more inclusive and productive future for Nigeria.

Interns participating in the program will receive competitive stipends, formal training, and direct mentorship from senior leaders within the bank. The initiative is part of Sterling Bank’s broader “HEART” strategy—focusing on Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Transportation—which has positively impacted over 30 million Nigerians. Examples include deploying smart health booths in remote communities, digitizing public schools, supporting agriculture, delivering rural energy solutions, and advancing electric mobility infrastructure.

Launched on Democracy Day, the “Beyond Education” campaign continues to gain national momentum. Scholarship recipients are being selected from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory through a transparent, community-led process involving both local leaders and Sterling customers.
