Super Eagles Goalkeeper Nwabali To Bury Parents On June 7

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has announced the funeral arrangements for his late parents, Chief Nwabali Godspower Onyekamu and Mrs. Grace Nwabali (née Mmai), describing the loss as a period of unimaginable grief.

In an emotional message shared via Instagram on Friday, alongside the official burial poster, Nwabali expressed the profound pain of bidding farewell to both parents.

“About time to put my dad and mom to rest. Something I never imagined doing so soon at this point in my life. Difficult to believe I will never set my eyes on you again,” he wrote. “It’s a different kind of pain I never wish for my enemy. Thank you for everything.”

According to the family, the funeral rites will span three days, beginning Thursday, June 5, 2025. A Service of Songs will be held at 5 p.m. at the late Chief’s residence on Osafu Lane, Okwuzi Egbema, Rivers State.

On Friday, June 6, the remains of Mrs. Grace Nwabali will be moved from Gbegbe Hospital Mortuary, Omoku, to her father’s compound before proceeding to her husband’s residence, where she will lie in state from 11 a.m.

The final burial rites will take place on Saturday, June 7. At 9 a.m., the body of Chief Nwabali Godspower will be taken from the mortuary to his maternal home, before being received by the Okwuzi Council of Chiefs at 10 a.m. A lying-in-state will follow at his residence by 11 a.m., with interment and other funeral proceedings scheduled to begin at 12 noon. A reception for guests will follow at CPS Okwuzi Egbema.

Chief Nwabali passed away at the age of 72, while Mrs. Grace Nwabali was 63.

The Nwabali family expressed deep appreciation to all who have supported them and extended an open invitation to friends, loved ones, and well-wishers to join in honouring the lives and legacies of their late parents on June 6 and 7.
