Super Eagles forward Terem Moffi has formally requested the termination of his contract with French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice following a violent incident involving supporters of the club.
The 26-year-old Nigerian striker was reportedly attacked by Nice fans in November 2024 after the team’s 3–1 defeat to Lorient. According to reports, Moffi and teammate Jeremie Boga were punched, kicked and spat on by supporters, with some of the blows allegedly aimed at their genitals. The players were also subjected to racist abuse. Moffi played the full match, while Boga came on as a substitute.
Following the incident, Moffi has been on sick leave for six weeks and has now taken legal action against his club. He has filed a complaint with the Professional Football League’s legal committee, seeking to have his contract terminated due to what he describes as an unsafe and hostile working environment.
French outlet L’Equipe reports that Moffi’s lawyers have validated the request, citing articles 51 and 265 of the professional football charter, which allow players to seek contract termination under serious circumstances.
The Professional Football League is expected to examine the case on Thursday. While a full contract termination is being considered, officials may also explore alternative solutions, including a possible loan move away from Nice.
Moffi is currently under contract with OGC Nice until June 2027, but the outcome of the legal process could bring an early end to his time at the club.
