Suspected Terror-Linked Shooting In Austin Leaves 3 Dead, 14 Injured

At least three people were killed and 14 others injured in a mass shooting at a bar in Austin, Texas, early Sunday, March 1, police reported.

The suspect was shot dead by responding officers at the scene. Of the 14 hospitalized, three were in critical condition.

The attack occurred just before 2 a.m. (08:00 GMT) outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden on Sixth Street, a popular nightlife area near the University of Texas, known for its bars and live music venues.

FBI Special Agent Alex Doran said a motive remains unclear but noted that “indicators on the subject and in his vehicle suggest a potential link to terrorism.” He added, “At this point, we are prepared to say it was potentially an act of terrorism, but it’s too early to determine specifics.”

Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said the suspect drove past the bar several times before opening fire from his SUV at patrons on the patio and sidewalk. He then exited the vehicle carrying a rifle, shooting at people nearby, before police arrived and shot him.

Three of the injured remained in critical condition Sunday morning as authorities continued their investigation.
