Tinubu Hails FCT Poll Victors, Praises Wike’s Impact

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as in Kano and Rivers states.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted elections across the six area councils of the FCT, alongside by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State, and Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano State.

The FCT polls covered chairmanship and councillorship positions in Abuja Municipal (AMAC), Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, and Abaji Area Councils.

According to results declared so far by INEC, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC, and Bwari, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada. In the state constituency by-elections, the APC clinched both seats in Rivers State.

President Tinubu urged the elected officials to discharge their duties with humility, patriotism, and commitment, describing the mandate given to them as a “sacred trust.”

He also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as notable achievements in the territory, saying the performance had translated into political gains for the ruling APC.

The President further congratulated the APC’s national leadership, as well as the party’s structures in Kano and Rivers states, and its members for their performance at the polls.

He praised INEC, security agencies, and voters for ensuring a peaceful electoral process, and applauded the candidates for their conduct, noting that healthy participation and competition strengthen democracy.

Tinubu reaffirmed that the successful conduct of the elections reinforces Nigeria’s democratic institutions and encouraged INEC to continue improving the electoral process.

Meanwhile, reports indicated low voter turnout during the elections, with opposition parties raising concerns over alleged irregularities. The PDP has since inaugurated a special legal team to handle petitions arising from the FCT Area Council elections.
