Tinubu Predicts More Defections To APC Ahead Of 2027

President Bola Tinubu said on Thursday, May 22, that he expects more politicians to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the APC Renewed Hope Agenda Summit held at the State House Conference Centre, Tinubu expressed satisfaction with his administration’s achievements and described other political options as a “sinking ship without a life jacket.”

According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the summit was attended by party leaders, members of the National Working Committee, the National Assembly leadership, and governors from the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

Tinubu emphasized that the government’s economic reforms, although difficult, are gaining both local and international recognition.

“A one-party system isn’t ideal for democracy, but we are leading with the people’s aspirations in mind,” the President said. “I am proud of what we’ve accomplished and expect more people to join us—that’s how the game works.”

He acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to choose their political affiliations, and expressed gratitude to his cabinet, the National Assembly, and party leadership for supporting the administration’s vision.

“We’ve promised to tackle Nigeria’s challenges—rebuilding trust, restoring economic growth, and improving security,” he said. “Our economic reforms are working. Nothing good comes easy, and tough decisions must be made for long-term progress.”

Tinubu stressed that the APC government could not continue to mortgage the future of the nation’s youth and unborn generations. He cited successes in eliminating multiple exchange rates, addressing corruption, and advancing tax reforms.

“Our efforts are attracting foreign direct investment, which will bring jobs, essential goods, and services that will raise the standard of living,” he said.

The President concluded by affirming his administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to reduce poverty, reform governance, and drive national development.
