President Bola Tinubu has submitted a ₦1.78 trillion budget proposal for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the National Assembly.
In a letter read by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas on Tuesday, Tinubu called on lawmakers to swiftly pass the budget to support major development projects in the capital. He noted that the move aligns with Section 299 of the Nigerian Constitution, which authorizes the president to present the FCT budget to the legislature.
The president highlighted that the proposed spending plan focuses on key sectors such as health, social welfare, agriculture, and job creation.
According to Tinubu, 85% of the budget will go toward completing ongoing infrastructure projects, while the remaining 15% is earmarked for new initiatives.
He urged the National Assembly to treat the proposal as a priority to help fast-track development efforts in the FCT.
