Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede, a 46-year-old Nigerian woman who had been missing since July 30, 2025, has been found dead in Naperville, Illinois.
She was last seen around 9:20 a.m. walking away from her home in the 2100 block of Sudbury Street. On the afternoon of Thursday, August 14, a body was discovered near a trailhead at the southwest corner of the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve, near 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive.
According to a joint statement from the Naperville Police Department and the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, officers responded to a report of a body found in the area. Police were guided through dense high grass where the body was located. The clothing on the deceased matched what Abosede was last seen wearing.
“While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, final confirmation will come from the DuPage County Coroner’s Office,” said Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres in a news release. “We are deeply saddened by this loss and extend our heartfelt condolences to the Abosede family. We thank the community for their support and ask for continued respect for the family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
Though official identification is still pending, her cousin, Fehintola da-Silva, confirmed the tragic news on X (formerly Twitter):
“My cousin, Sinmi, was found dead. This has been a devastating blow to our family. To everyone who shared, reposted, and reached out during the search, thank you. May her soul rest in peace.”
St. Raphael Catholic Church, where Abosede was a member, also confirmed her death in a statement:
“Our parish family at St. Raphael Catholic Church has been praying for the safe return of Olasinmibo ‘Sinmi’ Abosede. With heavy hearts, we share the news of her passing. We continue to hold her and her loved ones in our prayers. May our Blessed Mother and St. Raphael welcome Sinmi into Eternal Life.”
Police have stated that foul play is not suspected in her death.
