U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday announced a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan following several days of escalating military conflict involving jet fighters, missiles, drones, and artillery fire between the two nuclear-armed nations.
After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, commending both countries for “using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed the breakthrough, stating that the ceasefire deal came after intensive negotiations led by him and Vice President J.D. Vance with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other senior officials.
I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to begin talks on a broad range of issues at a neutral venue,” Rubio posted on X. “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif for their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.
The ceasefire announcement follows a major escalation in hostilities, with Pakistan launching retaliatory strikes against India on Saturday after three of its air bases were reportedly hit overnight.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister has also confirmed the ceasefire agreement. As of now, India has not issued an official statement regarding the development.
