Workers under the umbrella of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Nigeria staged a protest on Tuesday at the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja, demanding the payment of long-overdue arrears and other financial entitlements.
The protest disrupted activities at the ministry, with staff unable to access their offices due to the blockade created by the aggrieved workers. Carrying placards, the protesters expressed their frustration over unpaid allowances and emoluments owed to employees.
While the demonstrators declined to speak to the media, a civil servant inside the ministry confirmed the disruption.
“You can see that our office has been blocked. We don’t even know the full reason yet,” the staff member said.
As of the time this report was filed, the Federal Ministry of Finance had not released an official statement in response to the protest or addressed the workers’ specific demands.
