A Ukrainian sniper team has reportedly shattered the world record for the longest confirmed sniper kill, striking Russian troops from over 13,000 feet (approximately 4,000 meters) away.
The shot was fired using a Ukrainian-made 14.5mm “Alligator” sniper rifle, with assistance from drone surveillance and artificial intelligence. According to military sources, the operation took place on August 14 near Pokrovsk, Ukraine, and resulted in the deaths of two Russian soldiers.
This unprecedented feat comes as Russian forces intensify their offensive in the Pokrovsk region, an area that once housed more than 60,000 civilians.
The previous record—around 12,400 feet—was also held by a Ukrainian sniper who used the advanced “Horizon’s Lord” rifle to eliminate a Russian target.
The record-breaking kill occurred just one day before a high-profile summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet President Trump in Washington, D.C., on Monday, where the ongoing war and possible paths to peace are expected to be top of the agenda.
