Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His release was announced on Wednesday by former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore via a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Thanks to the unrelenting efforts of all, @thatverydarkman has been released from unjust detention at the @officialEFCC. He is with his ebullient lawyer, @adeyanjudeji, Sowore wrote.

VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, also confirmed the release on X, thanking Nigerians and public figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Davido, and opposition lawmakers for their support. He also expressed gratitude to the EFCC chairman and legal team for cooperating during the process.

VDM released to us on bail,” Adeyanju posted. “Special thanks to our firm @DAPLawFirm and to all who spoke out. The struggle continues.

Adeyanju had earlier criticized the EFCC’s delay in issuing formal bail documents, calling it a case of “social media bail” despite the commission’s public confirmation of bail.

In a statement on Tuesday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said VeryDarkMan had been granted bail but remained in custody at the time due to pending bail conditions. The commission said he was invited for questioning over multiple petitions related to alleged financial crimes and was arrested after failing to respond to repeated invitations.
