Nigeria international and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has been named in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Week following a heroic performance in the playoffs second leg.
UEFA announced Osimhen among the standout XI players via its official Champions League X handle after his decisive display against Juventus.
The 2023 African Player of the Year played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s dramatic comeback. With the Turkish giants trailing 3-0 on the night and the tie level at 5-5 on aggregate, Osimhen stepped up in extra-time to fire his side into the lead.
Galatasaray went on to score again, sealing a thrilling 7-5 aggregate victory and booking their place in the next round.
Osimhen’s match-winning impact earned him the Man of the Match award. His strike against Juventus marked his seventh goal in just eight appearances in this season’s competition, underlining his consistency on Europe’s biggest stage.
Other stars included in the Team of the Week are Jan Oblak of Atlético Madrid, Aurélien Tchouaméni of Real Madrid, Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United, and Osimhen’s former Napoli teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
