Violent unrest broke out across France after Paris Saint-Germain’s dominant 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Munich, leading to two deaths and nearly 560 arrests, according to French authorities.

The Ministry of the Interior reported that 192 people were injured and 692 fires were recorded nationwide, including 264 involving vehicles.

Tragically, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a PSG street party in the southwestern city of Dax. In Paris, a man was killed when his scooter was struck by a car amid the celebrations. Both incidents are under investigation.

In a separate incident in northwest France, a police officer suffered severe eye injuries after being accidentally struck by fireworks. He was placed in an artificial coma, according to the national police.

Nationwide, 559 people were arrested, with 491 of those detentions occurring in Paris. Of those arrested, 320 individuals were taken into police custody — 254 of them in the capital.

The Ministry also confirmed that 22 members of the security forces were injured during the unrest, including 18 police officers in Paris, as well as seven firefighters.

After the match, flares and fireworks lit up the Paris sky. Roughly 5,400 police officers were deployed across the city, using tear gas and pepper spray to manage crowds along the Champs-Elysées. A water cannon was deployed near the Place de l’Étoile, close to the Arc de Triomphe, to deter encroaching groups.

Police reported that a large crowd not watching the match attempted to breach a barrier to confront officers. A total of 131 arrests were made in this incident alone, including 30 people who broke into a shoe store on the Champs-Elysées. Additionally, two cars were set on fire near the Parc des Princes stadium.

In a post-match interview with Canal+, PSG forward Ousmane Dembélé urged fans to celebrate responsibly: “Let’s enjoy this, but let’s not destroy everything in Paris.”
