We Weren’t Elected To Fight The Executive,’ Says Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has stated that members of the National Assembly were not elected to engage in conflicts with the Executive arm, but to support policies that drive national development.

Akpabio made the remarks in a forthcoming documentary commemorating the two-year anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“When elected to the National Assembly—whether to the Senate or the House of Representatives—your constituents don’t give you boxing gloves. This isn’t a boxing match. You’re there to collaborate across party lines in the interest of Nigeria,” he said.

He noted that the relationship between the legislature and the executive has remained cordial over the past two years, thanks to a shared commitment to national progress.

“If all your energy is spent fighting the Executive, then who will do the work for Nigeria?” he added.
