Wike Applauds Supreme Court Verdict Upholding Okpebholo’s Election

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has applauded the Supreme Court’s ruling that upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State.

Wike’s commendation came in a statement released on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka.

The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, citing a lack of credible evidence to overturn the result of the September 2024 governorship election.

Describing the ruling as a final validation of the people’s will, Wike said the judgment affirms the mandate freely given to Okpebholo by the people of Edo. This victory is for the people of Edo, who elected Okpebholo. It is a call for greater commitment to the service of the people,” the minister said.

Wike urged Governor Okpebholo to remain focused and see the court victory as a renewed call to selfless leadership. He also called on Ighodalo and the PDP to accept the verdict in good faith and collaborate with the governor for the development of Edo State. Now that the question of who won the election has been conclusively answered, it is time for all opponents to join hands with the governor in the interest of the people, Wike added.
