The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is en route to China for key meetings aimed at boosting water supply to satellite towns within the FCT.
According to a statement released Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike is currently in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and will soon arrive in China.
While in China, Wike is scheduled to meet with officials of the China Geo-Engineering Corporation Overseas Construction Group (CGCOC) to discuss collaboration on enhancing water infrastructure in underserved areas of the FCT.
Olayinka recalled that during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to China in September 2024, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and CGCOC to improve electricity and water supply in the FCT.
“President Tinubu advocated for people-focused projects such as improved water access as part of his Renewed Hope agenda,” Olayinka stated, noting that the President had approved ₦50 billion for water projects in FCT satellite towns.
“In line with this directive, the minister is visiting China to hold strategic meetings to ensure water is supplied to areas like Gwagwalada, Kwali, and Kuje Area Councils,” the statement added.
Wike is expected to return to Nigeria next week.
