Real Madrid have reportedly finalized an agreement with former player Xabi Alonso to take over as the club’s next head coach, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Currently at the helm of Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso has signed a three-year deal that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2028. His arrival signals the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure and the start of a new era for the Spanish giants under the guidance of their former midfield maestro.

Romano shared the news on Monday via X, writing: “Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid, here we go! Story confirmed and deal sealed for Xabi as new manager until 2028.”

The agreement reportedly includes a fully prepared coaching staff, with plans for Alonso to officially begin his role during the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, where Real Madrid are expected to compete as Champions League titleholders.

“Staff sorted, contract in place and three-year deal for Alonso with Real planning for him to start at FIFA Club World Cup,” Romano added.
